How Doom Bots Could Be a Permanent LoL Gamemode

How Doom Bots Could Be a Permanent LoL Gamemode

Riot Games recently released the Doom Bots to League of Legends last week, which is essentially a gamemode where the game’s AI Bots are turned up to 11 in terms of frustrating(ly hilarious) difficulty.

Having just completed level five of Doom Bots, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that there wasn’t any sort of in-game reward from finishing the gamemode, other than the self-satisfaction of being able to say, “ yeah, I beat level five Doom Bots.

So, I did a little bit of brainstorming on how Riot Games could make Doom Bots more rewarding to League of Legends players and how the studio could make the gamemode a permanent feature, and I came up with something that might work.

Taking inspiration from The Arena gamemode from Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone , Doom Bots could be another way for players to turn massive amounts of Influence Points (IP), with the reward scaling in conjunction with the difficulty of the Doom Bots’ AI.

I wouldn’t suggest there’d be a paywall preventing League players from entering the Doom Bots gamemode (because that would be a little kick to the teeth), unless it was done using in-game IP; spend a little to make a lot.

How I envision Doom Bots to be a permanent feature is to add more difficulties (let’s say a total of 10), with the Bots themselves and the end-game reward being scaled accordingly. Like Hearthstone’s Arena, Doom Bots could be made so that after each Doom Bot difficulty players complete they’ll enter another tier until either they complete the full 10 rounds or are defeated.

The rewards themselves will be something you’d already get in-game, just a lot of it. Say, for example, you beat Tier One of Doom Bots, you’ll be rewarded with a respectable amount of IP. However, the more Tiers you complete the more worthwhile and extravagant the rewards will be.

Like, say you beat Tier Five; you’ll be rewarded with a large amount of IP, as well as maybe  a couple of mystery boxes and some new skins. If you beat Tier 10, you’d receive a hell of a lot of IP, a handful of mystery boxes and skins, as well as maybe an additional Rune page, or maybe even a free random champion, and such the like.

To make beating Tier 10 even more of an alluring challenge, it could be so that you’ll also receive a completely unique and exclusive skin for one of the champions you own. To win that, the Doom Bots of Tier 10 would have to be broken, or akin to something completely impossible.

No doubt additional rewards could be given to players who participate in the Doom Bots gamemode, with each one being representative of each tier, but the rewards mentioned above are the ones that come off the top of my head. Riot Games may think of more rewards to add should my vision of Doom Bots become a thing.

Of course, since League of Legends is a team-based game, the more you cooperate with and encourage your teammates the more little extra goodies you’ll receive; since Doom Bots is hard as is, tempers flare easily. So, if everyone keeps a calm and level head, the more bonuses they’ll receive.

As it currently stands, the Doom Bots gamemode is available in League of Legends until Sunday, July 27. Should the gamemore return as a permanent feature, I’d like to see it implemented in a way I envision it.

Of course, it’s all up to Riot Games in the end, but I think it’d be cool to see Doom Bots introduced as a gamemode that offers scaling rewards according to the difficulty of the Doom Bots.
