This Week’s PlayStation Guide!

This Week’s PlayStation Guide!

…goin’ a bit old-school with some of this week’s steals and deals!

I can still smell the aroma of flame-kissed burgers and hotdogs that was my Labor Day. The visual of smoke billowing from the rusty old grill is a sight so American, it can only be expressed by the crushing of a beer can atop one’s head while screaming M E R I C A at the top of your lungs! OK, maybe that’s a little too redneck for some of you, but it’s a regular occurrence around my house. Unfortunately, those good times have come and gone and now we find ourselves right smack dab in the middle of another work week.

But fear not my loyal gaming brethren! We here at CheatCC strive to help you break up those monotonous, long hours of the day-to-day grind with our frugal-minded picks from the latest Sony has to offer! Of course you can always check out the complete list of discounted content available via their weekly store update , but we’ve trudged through the pile and come away with a select few gems that deserve your precious attention. Read on young ones!

Mega Man X4 | PS One Classic | $5.99:

Mega Man is a series of games from…ah hell…if you really need me to explain who Mega Man is, then I’m afraid you may not be a legit gamer. Sorry poser, but it’s true. This little cannon-toting hero needs no introduction, as his continuing popularity speaks volumes regarding just how much of an impact this generation ultimately had on our industry. Now we have breakthroughs in virtual reality and near photorealistic visuals, yet all we want to do is bathe ourselves in pixelated sprites from yesteryear!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 – Episode 1 | PlayStation Now:

Again, another old-school classic! It probably doesn’t qualify as “ retro ” technically speaking (ala Mega Man), as it’s actually a completely new experience in the style of our 16-bit Sega Genesis days! I can assure you, as a huge Sonic fan myself, I loved every minute of this game. Unlike more recent next-gen iterations (that crashed and burned), Sonic 4 feels like a true successor to the original ‘90s series. Newly added to Sony’s streaming service, there is no reason for PlayStation owners not to be playing this as soon as you finish reading our article!

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale | PlayStation 3 | Free (with PS Plus Membership):

Rounding out our throw-back list today is a royal rumble of epic proportions! Featuring characters from both the current Sony roster and classic franchises of days gone by, this one is all kinds of fun. Granted, other releases like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter might hold more sway over the hardcore fighting fan, don’t be so quick to dismiss All-Stars . Yes it’s a blatant rip-off of Super Smash Brothers …but do we care? Fun is fun, no matter which way you slice it!

This Week’s PlayStation Guide!

EA Sport’s UFC | PlayStation 3 | $31.49 (with PS Plus Membership):

While it might seem strange that UFC suddenly went from having a yearly nomenclature and subtitles to a simple three letter abbreviation, there is a method behind this madness. UFC President Dana White says EA originally passed on the idea of an MMA game, stating that UFC “…wasn’t a real sport.” Only after THQ proved them wrong did the bitter rivalry between White and the folks at EA eventually die down. During the bankruptcy buyout, EA was able to swoop in and snatch it up from THQ. Now everything is copacetic (proving how effective a large pile of cash can be), as this has become one of the best UFC games to date!

By the time you read this, Friday night is likely just around the corner! No matter if you own a PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or only enjoy your hand-held treks with the Vita…there’s no denying Sony has provided some serious entertainment value in 2014! Yes I still love me some Xbox (even though the haters may never believe it), props go to Team Sony for a hell of a ride.

Is anyone else as excited to see what 2015 has in-store? It’ll be hard to top this past year, but somehow, I expect they’ll do it with ease!
