The PS4 Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Port is Unsurprising

The PS4 Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Port is Unsurprising

Everything’s all confirmed. The Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is officially coming to the PS4. Square Enix is porting another one of its games yet again. The world is working as it should.

Wondering why I’m not expressing any surprise or outrage? Honestly, I’m wondering why you’d expect that. We have to think about things logically. First, this is Square Enix. It’s a company reknowned for its ports of games. The fact that the Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is coming to another system is no big deal.

Honestly, I would have been more surprised if it wasn’t coming to the PS4. Given the timing and nature of the game, it only makes sense for it to be on the PS4 as well. Odds are, Square Enix needed a little longer to get it working properly on the system and add whatever these “system exclusive” features are that it has planned.

Square Enix probably didn’t announce the PS4 Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster right away for that very reason. It was probably a lot easier to prepare the game for the PS3 and Vita. Plus, this mysterious “additional content” likely took extra effort too. The company was already catching heat for the first two versions’ delay. It was probably easier this way.

Plus, this version of Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster may even end up saving people money. We’ve seen how PlayStation Now is going so far. It isn’t finalized, but prices for rentals are less than ideal. Putting this collection directly on the PS4 could make it cheaper for someone who did want to play both games to just buy it, rather than go to the trouble of renting it.

We’ve reached a point where we expect certain things from Square Enix. One of these thing is that the company is going to port whenever possible. With Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster being on PS3 and Vita, it was only a matter of time before it came to the PS4 too. There’s no point being shocked or annoyed. Rather, we should accept it as a thing that is happening, be happy for the PS4 owners who will play the games for the first time because of it, and encourage people waiting for this version to wait to buy it after the price drops to $29.99, which it will inevitably do.
