The Final Fantasy XV Demo is No Big Deal

The Final Fantasy XV Demo is No Big Deal

We’ve recently learned something rather unique about the Final Fantasy XV -Episode Duscae- demo that will be included with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD . Namely, that only the people who buy the game right away will get it. Drama! Oh no! Better run and get the Day One editions and grab that FFXV demo!

Ha ha, I’m kidding of course. Don’t start feeling pressured to pre-order a game you may or may not want, just so you can have the honor of getting to play a FFXV demo early. There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to this distribution, and it may be to your benefit to not go racing out to buy something immediately. Lets think things through. Square Enix is making a big deal of saying things like this demo is exclusive and will never be released alone, that it will only come with first-print runs of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD , but lets think about that for a second.

To start, Square Enix hasn’t said how many copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 will be in the first production run. That’s a pretty critical point. Since this is a Final Fantasy game, it isn’t like there will be a shortage. It’s going to be at every retailer. This isn’t an Atlus or Aksys game. I mean, the company pulled this with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call , saying only the first run will come with a soundtrack sampler CD. I grabbed my copy weeks after launch at a Walmart, on sale, and it still had the CD. My point is, this isn’t a limited product.

There’s another thing to be wary of with this promotional language. Look at this sentence on the PlayStation Blog . “…this demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD .” See the wording? It means this particular, -Episode Duscae- FFXV demo will only come with this game. It doesn’t say it will be the only FFXV demo. Square Enix wants, nay, needs this game to do well. Do you honestly think they’d limit themselves to one demo as a means of exposure? I wouldn’t be surprised if a second demo eventually appears closer to Final Fantasy XV ‘s release.

The Final Fantasy XV Demo is No Big Deal

Don’t get suckered into a snap purchase because you want a taste of a highly anticipated game. It isn’t that there are concerns about Final Fantasy Type-0 HD ‘s quality, which would make a day one purchase a question. It’s a game I’ve been wanting for years and will absolutely get. I’m only saying that people shouldn’t rush in because of the FFXV demo. Treat this as you would any other game purchase and, if you do happen to get a copy that includes a demo code, consider that a bonus treat.

Besides, if you do miss out, it’s not the end of the world. Hop on Twitch or Ustream. Even if you don’t get to play it firsthand, I guarantee you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see it.
