GTA Ruined My Patience

GTA Ruined My Patience

How far can you stretch a man’s patience before it snaps? I think we’ll soon find out.

Since the day Rockstar launched its online component of GTA V last year, players have found new and interesting ways to experience the world of Los Santos they’d never dreamed possible. The community interaction provides an entirely new layer to Grand Theft Auto that has opened our eyes to what a real sandbox world can feel like beyond the bounds of a simple story mode. But if Rockstar can do all this, it begs the question…where the f*#k is the stupid Heist mode you keep promising?!

Apparently, we’ve been handed the old “check’s in the mail” routine again, as Rockstar continues to delay the release. In fact, a recent statement by the studio sees them finally copping to the notion they perhaps over-promised (underestimating just how daunting rolling out this latest feature would be). “Heists were a much bigger challenge to create than we had originally anticipated. Early versions were simply not good enough and had to be scrapped more than once as we honed in on how we thought they should work. We’re happy to say that the pack we are now finalizing is something we are excited by and eager to release as soon as it is ready. We, as a company, have always been about trying to make something that is good rather than hitting a date. We apologize when this gets frustrating but firmly believe that rushing out second-rate content does not do anyone any favors. Hopefully you agree that yesterday’s new Trailer is a sign that Heists are shaping up nicely, but we still need some time to fine tune them,” Rockstar explains.

Now, I have to come clean. I’ve bait and switched you a bit here. I really laid on the extra layer of vitriol in the opening of this article to help prove a point. While I likely came across as a frustrated, impatient a-hole (crying for that shiny new toy his mother simply refuses to give him), I did that for a reason. This is what many on forums, blogs and social media sound like when they relentlessly ride Rockstar’s ass regarding the upcoming Heist mode. To them, I say–slow your role my short-sighted peeps. Consider what we’ve seen in 2014. One messy debut after another involving games that should have spent another two or three months simmering in the development stage. From Halo , to Assassin’s Creed , to #DRIVECLUB , this last year has been a fluster cluck of epic proportions. Coincidentally, a little birdy told me CheatCC might just have a top ten coming up analyzing these phenomena very soon, so keep an eye out for that.

I can tell you with 100% certainty, I’m glad the mode is taking so long. Based on the comments above, we clearly have a team focused on getting things right BEFORE heist hits the streets, rather than dragging us through a horrid patching process which does nothing but agitate and annoy fans. Give the fellas behind the scenes a chance to work their magic in the right way. Trust me when I say, it’ll pay off in the long-term.

In short, get off their backs people. Rockstar is a studio among few who actually get things done properly.
