Gamers Must Stop the Insanity!

Gamers Must Stop the Insanity!

This is far worse than the mass hysteria of “…dog and cats living together” that Peter Venkman once warned us about.

Like many of you, I stated 2015 off on an optimistic foot. I’m not one who’s big on resolutions, but I do take each New Year as an opportunity to start fresh and look forward to what the coming months may bring. Now is the time to put behind us those nagging character defects and open new doors of change and prosperity. Our horizons are bright, so what more opportune time to make a positive transition for the better than right now? I know you’re with me my gaming brethren!

You know, I truly wanted to believe that line of bull shit I just fed you. Frankly, it took all of about 10 minutes of perusing the last several days’ headlines to effectively kill that sentiment in my mind.  I do realize a change is happening, but I certainly wouldn’t call it a welcomed one. In fact, I feel like a whole sub-section of our community has lost their mother fudgin’ minds as of late. Take this recent Kickstarter campaign as an example . This guy honestly wants to raise a huge pile of cash (tens of thousands of dollars in fact) for one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard of. You know those anniversary edition PlayStation 4s that are clocking in at about a grand a piece on eBay right now? Well this idiot wants to completely smash this ultra-rare piece of gaming history into oblivion, all as you pay to watch it! But who should you be more upset with? The douche bag running the campaign or the people who’ve willingly backed it thus far? I say flip a coin on that one.

Up ‘till now, the craziest (and by craziest I mean stupidest) thing Id’ seen regarding the PS4 was the kid who waited in line on launch night, just to smash his fresh new hardware on the sidewalk in front of a line of horrified onlookers. I’m sure you can still find it on YouTube somewhere. This, however, just adds further fuel to the fire that the consumerism of our gaming culture has gotten WAY out of hand. And I’m not just referring to dipshits like this guy either. It’s rampant among developers as well. While the sorted history of overpriced DLC and unfair micro-transactions have been well documented over the last several years, one recent “limited edition” has made me especially outraged. Halo 5 is going to be a pretty big deal upon its release, especially to diehard fans such as myself. That being said, I think I wanna’ punch someone at Microsoft in the face right now. Why you might ask? I can give you 250 individual reasons. That’s how much their super high-end (and completely useless) bundle will cost those poor suckers willing to shell out this much cash on a single title.

Sure they’ll be extra content packed in…but $250? REALLY ! No game on the f’ing planet is worth that, considering it comes close to what the actual console you’ll play it on would cost. So you see, I put the loser who wants to break his anniversary PS4 and the folks behind this latest Halo campaign in the same boat. They do nothing but take advantage of people’s gullibility, hoarding nature and lust for mayhem (all qualities we could easily do without).

Then again, am I pointing a finger at the wrong people here? Perhaps we’re the ones to blame. After all, it’s those within our own circle who are lending credence to this behavior. Perhaps if we ignore them in 2015, they’ll just become voices in an empty room which will quietly fade away in time.
