New Amiibos Announced, But Should We Care?

New Amiibos Announced, But Should We Care?

In the most recent Nintendo direct, the big N announced the next series of Amiibo figures to be released. The second official Amiibo wave, understandably, is themed around Smash Bros. characters. Figures for Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Wario, Ness, and Charizard will be included in the production run. The wave will come out this Spring.

In addition, a specialty wave of Amiibo will be coming out called the Super Mario series. The Super Mario series will include several Amiibo figures that have already been made, but in new poses themed around Mario games instead of Smash . The characters in the Super Mario Series include Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Toad.

Note that Toad is not playable in Smash Brothers . This marks the first Amiibo that doesn’t explicitly have functionality with Smash . Instead, the Toad figurine will work together with Captain Toad Treasure Tracker . Using the game will hide an 8-bit Toad in each stage for you to find, giving each stage just a little bit more replay value.

In addition, the Super Mario series figures will all have some functionality with Mario Party 10 which has a special “Amiibo Party” mode that saves your progress to your Amiibo. Amiibo party will feature exclusive gameplay maps only able to be played by people with Amiibos. It will also include exclusive power-ups, events, and so forth. Unfortunately, only one game’s data can be saved per Amiibo. So if you are using your Mario Amiibo for Smash , you will have to delete its Smash data in order to use it in Mario Party … or just buy another one, which I’m sure is what Nintendo wants.

New Amiibos Announced, But Should We Care?

In addition to the Super Mario series, Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and Wario Amiibos will also work with Mario Party 10 . Mario Party 10 is themed around Bowser constantly interrupting the party and acting as antagonists to the player characters. This “Bowser Party” mode allows one player with the gamepad to act as antagonist to 4 other player characters. It’s his job to make sure that the other characters lose, while everyone else simply tries to survive. It’s interesting to think about what functionality the Bowser Amiibo will have in relation to this game, though currently that has not been revealed.

The Super Mario series of Amiibo is due out on March 20 th . The second wave of Smash Amiibo has not yet been dated. We will bring you more information on their release, as well as what games they work with, as it becomes available. Here is hoping that Fire Emblem Amiibos will work with the brand new Fire Emblem game revealed for the 3DS.
