Final Fantasy XV Is One Large Connected World

Final Fantasy XV Is One Large Connected World

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata recently revealed that the entire world of Final Fantasy XV is one huge connected landmass. This means that you probably aren’t going to be getting on a boat or sailing on an air ship, but you will be able to walk, train, or drive to any location in the game. Tabata calls it a “fantasy based on a reality” which looks to recreate an experience of an actual real life road trip.

OK, well it’s not a give-in that air-ships won’t show up in the game. Tabata says they are still considering it. “To be completely honest, that’s still to be determined,” Tabata said in an interview with Gamespot . “But the development team does understand that this is something everyone is looking forward to. It is a huge technical challenge; as mentioned earlier, all areas are connected. We are trying to tackle that challenge. So at the moment we can’t say yes, they will be included, but we do want to and we’re ready to take on that challenge and see what can be done.”

Also interesting about this title is the fact that towns will be modeled after real life locales, with a similar scope, in order to make your trip feel even more real. “The towns and the cultural references that you see throughout the world, you’ll get a sense of realistic towns and cultures,” Tabata said. “That’s one aspect that has remained since the title was first named Versus XIII .”

“The first town that was showcased was based on Shinjuku in Japan, and one area we showed in December [in the most recent trailer] was based on Havana in Cuba,” he explained. “And the other watery town we showed is based on Venice. So those are some cultural references that have been made within the game.”

That being said, Tabata has confirmed that many Final Fantasy staples will be coming back. Summons in particular will play a huge role in Final Fantasy XV . They will be the protectors of the planet, guarding the world from annihilation. However, magic will take on a very different role in Final Fantasy XV . Unlike in Final Fantasy XIII ad many other Final Fantasies , where the heroes were endowed with a special power, Final Fantasy XV focuses on its heroes as people. Things like the l’Cie and fal’Cie will not show up in Final Fantasy XV , even though it came from a Final Fantasy XIII spin-off, “ Versus XIII .”

Tabata went on to finally explain what Versus XIII meant in the original conception of the title. Final Fantasy XIII and it’s sequels were all based on a sense of “otherness.” For example, the worlds of Cocoon and Pulse in Final Fantasy XIII were completely separate from each other, and caused essentially a war between cultures, creatures, and gods. When the title Versus XIII was created, the thought was to create a world “versus” to the original Final Fantasy XIII world, or essentially a world that is the complete opposite. Hence, the large interconnected world of Final Fantasy XV , which can be road tripped across with your bros.
