Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Announced, Scared Yet?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Announced, Scared Yet?

The other day, Scott Cawthon unveiled the trailer for the third in his acclaimed Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Yes, the franchise is still less than a year old, and we are already seeing trailers for the third entry. Man, this guy is a machine… that explains so much.

Anyway, there have been a number of “ Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 ” fan games released to the internet. Perhaps the most notorious is one that combines the gameplay elements of both the first game, with its doors and power, and the second game, with the Freddy mask, music box, and flashlight. Note, that this game was just a fan creation, and was made totally with stolen assets, and trust me, it’s nothing compared to what the real FNAF3 has in store.

The new game takes place thirty years after the events of Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 . Having heard the rumors of haunted animatronics and horrible murders, the owners of a haunted house decided to take advantage of the fright and create a horror attraction themed around the Five Nights at Freddy’s experience. They named it “ Fazbear’s Fright: The Horror Attraction .” You heard right. The setting of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 is TRYING to be scary.

Of course, they are just a haunted house, so they have limited resources. They were able to get a few pieces of memorabilia, some old masks, some costume parts, wall decorations, so on so forth. But then the owners found one animatronic which was nearly in-tact. It was a golden bunny robot, and it was a little worse for wear and now it’s the main attraction.

You may be thinking “wait a minute… there wasn’t ever a golden bunny animatronic.” You are correct. There was, however, a golden Freddy, which was long suspected of being some sort of ghostly being, not just an animatronic. Considering the story of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 , this golden suit was suspected of being either the shell that housed a serial killer, or perhaps the shell that houses his restless spirit.

In the trailer, words flash by the screen saying “he will come back, he always does.” On the official website for the game, these words are in purple, perhaps alluding to the mysterious “purple man” who people have come to theorize was the original serial killer. “We have a place for him” the trailer continues, before showing the golden bunny animatronic, spazzing out as if having a seizure, dead white eyes staring into the distance, before showing an attack jumpscare.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Announced, Scared Yet?

So yes, we have gone from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 , which had 11 animatronics, to Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 which only has one. Not only that, but when you look at some of the gameplay screenshots, it appears as if there is only one entrance to the office this time around, and you do have a door. However, there also is a ventilation system, which likely will serve as a method of attack. There is also a huge glass window in front of the office, showing the hallway leading to the door. That’s sure to get the tension rising.

While there only appears to be one animatronic, there are several references to other animatronics in the game. In your office, you see the “toy” masks from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 , including toy Bonnie, toy Chica, toy Freddie, and The Mangle. One of the walls has Foxy’s head on it, which appears to be able to look up at you. Another screenshot shows a camera and a barely visible outline of what appears to be Bonnie. It’s unclear how these will play into the game if they aren’t actually animatronics. Maybe they will be hallucinations?

Another gameplay screen shows a computer menu allowing you to restart systems. The systems are Audio Devices, Camera System, and Ventilation. Likely, all of these serve some function in protecting you from the psycho animatronic. Restarting them will likely take time, and leave you vulnerable, and will be one of the things you have to juggle while trying not to die.

Considering that there is only one animatronic, it’s unlikely that the main purpose of the game is to try and avoid attacks from multiple directions. The leading fan theory is that the game will focus on hallucinations. The other animatronics and decorations will cause you to see things that aren’t there, and will make you lose track of where the one real murderous animatronic is.

In addition, in the bottom left of the camera screen there appear to be 3 dots. These dots might be a loading bar, or a stock of some kind. As of now it isn’t particularly clear what it is, but our guess is that it will be another resource you have to juggle.

There are no power bars, flashlights, or other warning icons on the screen. Heck, there isn’t even a bar at the bottom of the screen that lets you bring up the camera. Instead this bar is to the right of your office, which means you actively have to look away from the door in order to use it. The camera doesn’t take up the whole screen this time, however, so you can see a bit out the window while using it and react to things coming your way. It’s also worth noting that the reboot console computer is to the left, far away from your cameras. There also appears to be something that makes your office turn red, perhaps an emergency mode when your systems are down, or just another hallucination. We will have to wait and see.

Finally, there is just one other thing that is a little disturbing. Before this teaser came out, Scott Cawthon, creator of the game, uploaded an image to his website. It had a picture of what appeared to be Golden Freddy’s face along with the text “I am still here.” This picture does NOT line up with the Golden Bonnie animatronic that has been featured in trailers so far. Perhaps we will have more than one animatronic to look out for?
