Netflix’s Legend of Zelda Adaptation Could Be Brilliant

Netflix’s Legend of Zelda Adaptation Could Be Brilliant

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s crown jewels. It’s a series the company can always depend upon to sell systems and bring in fans. With good reason, too. Even people who normally aren’t a fan of action RPGs have at least one installment that spoke to them. For Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda is a rock.

Which is why it makes absolute sense that the company is working with Netflix to make a live action show based upon the property. Statements were made saying Nintendo wants to spread its horizons and use its IPs in unexpected manners. Tapping into one of its most beloved series and turning it into a show makes sense. I mean, it’s not like a Legend of Zelda TV series hasn’t been done before.

Except now, we’re in a prime position for a good The Legend of Zelda adaptation. The fact that Netflix is handling this is more than encouraging. The idea of a “family friendly Game of Thrones ” has been tossed around, which makes a bit of sense. Give people a serial, fantasy series with characters they can identify with and root for. Tap into archetypes, to make people feel comfortable. Create something compelling, building on the characters of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf, which welcomes anyone even remotely familiar with the series.

We know Netflix can do a series up right. Look at their track record. House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black are both amazing. I’m a big fan of BoJack Horseman as well, though it isn’t for everyone. Hemlock Grove is another odd one out, but has built something of a following. All of these go to show that the company is willing to invest time and money into making quality programming, something that could bode well for a live-action The Legend of Zelda . Netflix isn’t going to want to mess this up.

Plus, there’s the Nintendo factor to consider. Netflix is working with the company to make this series. Considering how highly the publisher values this property, it isn’t going to let there be any mistakes. This won’t be like that 1989 show, which is more of a joke than anything. If Netflix’s take on The Legend of Zelda comes to fruition, it will only be because it met Nintendo’s high standards for anything relating to its major properties.

All this adds up to good news for us. The Legend of Zelda is a big part of our lives. We grew up with this series. At one point or another, we’ve all followed Link on his quest to save the kingdom. This could have potential, so let’s put our faith in Netflix and Nintendo and hope this results in something glorious.

And, if anyone from Netflix or Nintendo is reading, maybe consider giving Zelda Williams a part in it. For old time’s sake.
