Idiots Are Buying Final Fantasy XV Demo Codes for Full Game Price

Idiots Are Buying Final Fantasy XV Demo Codes for Full Game Price

Here is a case of idiocy just trumping common sense for some reason. I was able to deal with people putting up their Final Fantasy XV demo download codes up on eBay. I know that people want to play this game badly, and for some strange reason Square-Enix has some weird hold on the souls of every RPG gamer in existence. Heck, I really want to play this game. I understand the want to see any bit of the game on your PS4 right now.

But please, use your minds and not your raging Final Fantasy XV boners, people. I was OK with the demo being listed on eBay for $30. That’s like half the price of Final Fantasy Tyoe-0 HD, the game it comes packaged with. If you really didn’t want to play Type-0 and really did want to play Final Fantasy XV , I was OK with that. It was a dumb idea, but I was OK with that.

But then I saw the price starting to rise. Demo vouchers were being sold for $40 and $50, and the other day I saw one get purchased for $60.

Yes, $60. That’s the same as the actual price of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. People are paying more than the price of this actually pretty awesome game just to get their hands on the Final Fantasy XV demo, which they would get with this game anyway! Even if you really don’t want to play Final Fantasy Type-0, you could purchase it at full price and resell the game! Hell, you can find Type-0 for $30-$40 right now. You could make a profit off of purchasing it and selling it if all you really want is the demo code, as opposed to buying the demo code for $50-$60.

This is clearly a situation of hype overriding common sense. At a $30 buyback rate at any old screw-off Gamestop that isn’t paying attention, it’s almost always worth it to purchase the game in full rather than pick up an individually listed code on eBay. Once again, you can resell the game and essentially break even anyway, and at least then you don’t have to worry about an eBay reseller screwing you over.

These demo codes are one of the quickest exploding listings on eBay right now. Why? Is it just because of the Final Fantasy name? You guys do realize this game was being made way back when Final Fantasy 12 was announced, right? It’s been through several different directors and teams and has even changed consoles? It even changed its name? Do you really think this is going to be a good game, especially after the whole debacle that was Lightning Returns ? Does the Final Fantasy name mean that much to you? Even after they decided to plaster the Coleman brand of products all over every tent and chair in their game? Even after they sold cologne based off their protagonist before the game even came out?

Regardless, this is a great example of why quality doesn’t always translate into profit, and why consumers don’t always work in their rational self-interest.
