The Batman Arkham Trilogy Deserves to Be Remastered

The Batman Arkham Trilogy Deserves to Be Remastered

There’s a lot of debate over the current state of remasters. Some see them as a cop-out, an easy way for developers and publishers to get a second payday with minimal effort. It’s an understandable stance, too. Some of the games getting these remasters aren’t even that old. The Last of Us Remastered , Tomb Raider Definitive Edition , DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition , and God of War III are only a handful of the most recent “offenders.” Now, rumors suggest that Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are on the way as well. However, there’s a difference with these two remasters. Something that sets them apart.

The Batman: Arkham Asylum and City remasters are things people would actually want. They’d be good for PS4 and Xbox One owners. Ports of these games would actually be appreciated, because the resulting products would very likely be much different, and possibly even better, on the newest consoles.

I mean, consider how long it has been since Batman: Arkham Asylum and City were released. The first installment was released in 2009, and the second in 2011. These aren’t games that only appeared a year or two ago. The two games are six and four years old. Technology has advanced quite a bit since then. Plus, there’s a very good chance that new PS4 and Xbox One owners missed the titles the first time around.

There’s also the story to consider. Many of the PS4 and Xbox One remasters we’ve seen have been stand-alone games. However, Batman: Arkham Asylum and City are predecessors to Batman: Arkham Knight , a game that will only be on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While each installment can be enjoyed on its on, they’re better when you see the whole story ahead of you. It only makes sense for the trilogy to be available in one place.

Not to mention the quality. Both Batman: Arkham Asylum and City are incredible games. Asylum even holds the Guiness World Record award for Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever. City ‘s reception was almost as positive. To give you an even better idea – these two games are so good that even people who don’t like Batman like them. They look amazing, there’s tons of content, and I’m sure people would leap at the chance to play prettier versions that, in all likelihood, would contain all the DLC.

Sure, PS4 and Xbox One ports of Batman: Arkham Asylum and City would be easy money. No one’s disputing that. But, there are also enough reasons to revisit these two games. I’d even go so far as to say that, if the rumor is true, the Batman: Arkham Asylum and City remasters could prove to be the most merited ones since the PS4 and Xbox One launched.
