Games to Look Out For This April

Games to Look Out For This April

As we head toward the summer months, big game releases become fewer and far between. Releases are going to slow down as companies start to prepare for E3, focusing on showing off all the new games they have to offer. Luckily there’s still some big releases in April from huge AAA fighting game releases to the final fulfillment of Kickstarter games to episodic cinematic games. Here is what I’m excited for in April 2015.

Mighty No. 9

Kickstarter backers have been waiting for this game to release for a while. Mighty No. 9 , for those of you who have been living under a rock, is essentially Mega Man in everything but the title. It’s even made by Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man himself. For the longest time, the only release date that we’ve had for the game is April and even now the official website for the game only states a vague April 2015 release date. We originally thought that this was just a placeholder, but hey, maybe we will be lucky and actually see this brand new Mega Man game come out in just a couple of weeks. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X is looking to be one of the biggest fighting game releases of this year. It’s incredibly gruesome and includes a lot of new characters and mechanics that will make both casual and professional players very happy. The ability to choose between three different fighting systems for each character makes the number of match-ups available in the game explode, making it hard to become stale even when every character has played every other character in a tournament setting already. It’s also the only fighting game that really takes its story seriously with an absolutely beautiful campaign mode, perfect voice acting, and an amazing plot to go along with it. It’s leagues above its sister title Mortal Kombat 9 and it’s probably going to be one of the big titles in the fighting game community for years to come. I expect to see this at Evo 2015 and several other Evos as years go on.

Broken Age

Another Kickstarter title on my list, Broken Age is a title that backers have been waiting to see completed for what feels like forever. The first episode came out last year and ended very abruptly, giving us only about half of the experience people donated for. This second episode is finally going to end the saga. For that matter, it will also allow people to purchase the game in full instead of having to wait an entire year for the conclusion. There are a lot of good things to say about Broken Age , it’s just really unfortunate that it’s taken so many years to see the full product come out.  Now we’ll finally be able to tell if the three million dollars that fans donated to Double Fine to make an adventure game were worth it. Personally, I think that’s the case.

New Chapters In All Our Favorite Episodic Games

There are a lot of episodic games on the market right now. Telltale has Tales From the Borderlands and Game of Thrones and Square Enix has Life Is Strange . All the series are hovering around their second or third episodes right now and we’re likely to see new episodes come out next month. The thing is, we’re not entirely sure if they’re going to come out next month because new episodes of episodic games tend to be announced a week before they’re released. So if we get to see another episode of Max using her time powers or everybody dying in the Game of Thrones universe, it will be a surprise to everybody.

What titles you looking forward to this April? Let us know in the comments.
