Nintendo Should Bundle More Games with Amiibos

Nintendo Should Bundle More Games with Amiibos

There are more Amiibo problems than there are solutions. People are upset. Nintendo has to start meeting demand. The pieces of plastic probably aren’t even worth it. We’ve heard it all. However, there’s one step forward that has been made, and that’s the Amiibo game bundle.

The first Amiibo game bundle was Mario Party 10 , which was released on March 10. It wasn’t terribly shocking or appealing. It included a copy of the game and a variation of the Mario Party Mario Amiibo for $59.99, $10 more than the game alone. However, it was still a good idea. You need at least one Amiibo to unlock an additional game mode and using one with Super Smash Bros . data on it would result in the fighter’s data being overwritten. Sure, it was only Mario, but that’s fine. We all like Mario.

However, the second Amiibo game bundle is already more appealing. As I mentioned earlier , there are going to be plush, yarn Yoshi Amiibos. These things are going to sell like crazy, because they are Yoshis made of yarn. People who don’t even want Yoshi’s Woolly World are already talking on Twitter and Reddit about how they want these things. Fortunately, Nintendo of Europe has already revealed a Yoshi’s Woolly World Amiibo bundle that gives you the standard, green Yoshi and a copy of the game. It hasn’t been announced for North America yet, but hopefully it will be. I know I’d grab it right away, if it guarantees one of those precious plushes.

Then, there’s the Captain Toad bundle. Those searching for Amiibos know that Toad is the “rare” figure of the Mario Party wave. Which is rather unfortunate, as he’s compatible with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker . Nintendo of Japan has begun offering a bundle that included the Amiibo and the game. Again, the price is about $10 more than usual, as it’s ¥3,996 for the game alone and ¥4,700 with the Amiibo.

It’s a practice that makes sense. Certain games have Amiibo abilities that really seem to matter. I mean, there’s a whole game mode locked away in Mario Party 10 . Splatoon ‘s Amiibos are going to unlock special missions and costumes. The bonuses won’t always be like that of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D , where you’re guaranteed a few coins you could already get in other ways.

The Splatoon situation is an apt one. Already, there’s a special three pack that will be the only way to get the Inkling Squid Amiibo in North America. It’s going to sell. Think of how much better it would be if you knew, for say $20 extra, you could get Splatoon and that three pack of Amiibos in a bundle. I’d do it, as it’d aleviate the collecting conundrum.

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. would benefit from it as well. The ability to scan in Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin, then use them in battles, is a selling point. It would be fantastic if, when the Marth restock happens, a bundle is announced that guaranteeds a copy of the game and the toy.

Nintendo needs to get creative when it comes to making amends. With so many of these Amiibos now being tied to specific games, it only makes sense to capitalize on that. Offer more Amiibo game bundles. Give us the chance to get at least one of the figures worry free. I guarantee people would seize the opportunity, as it would make our lives a little less stressful.
