Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Confirmed for Halloween Release

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Confirmed for Halloween Release

Let’s milk this franchise until we can’t stand it anymore. A brand new Five Nights at Freddy’s has been announced. Entitled Five Nights at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter (which, as we all know, may be a complete lie), the new game will come out this Halloween. That gives it a six month development period, which is actually pretty long for a FNAF game.

This news comes from a new image posted on ScottGames.com, developer Scott Cawthon’s personal website. It shows a brand new take on Freddy Fazbear, a take that is less subtle creepiness and more flat out nightmare fuel. It shows a Freddy animatronic, dilapidated like Springtrap was, with wires sticking out of him and metal showing all around his body. Also, he has drill spikes for fingers, a metal hat, and tiny little Freddy Fazbear faces sticking out of his chest, all with razor sharp teeth. He is legion. He is many. You are one.

If you increase the brightness on the picture you can see another word, subtly hidden over the entire picture. It says “nightmare” suggesting that this Freddy too may be an illusion. In addition, if you check the site’s code, you can see 87 interspersed all throughout file names links and references. This may have to do with the bite of 87, the event referenced in the original Five Nights at Freddy’s where an animatronic bit off someone’s skull and a good chunk of their frontal lobe.

Since we don’t know much more about the game and likely won’t until the next ScottGames update, here is my thought on a wacky fan theory. Everything keeps coming back to the bite of 87. Everyone at this point has been distracted by the Purple Guy and the dead children and the puppet and a whole bunch of supposed murders, but the bite of 87 has remained constant.

After the events of FNAF 3 , we assumed the story was “over” because we saw the Purple Guy die and eventually saw the lights in the animatronics’ eyes go out in the “good” ending, not to mention we spent all our time in Atari mini-games actively making children happy in order to put their souls to rest.

But now we see this nightmare Freddy who couldn’t possibly exist for any reason. No one would build an animatronic with heads coming out of his chest. Freddy isn’t just accidentally creepy here, he appears to be built for certain death. So what sort of Freddy is this?

It’s not. That’s the point. You see, as the Five Nights franchise moved forward Freddy and his friends became increasingly decrepit and spooky. Most of us attribute this to Scott Cawthon getting better at making scary models. However, I think it’s telling that by the time we hit FNAF 3, almost every animatronic is in your head, and now FNAF 4 has this whole Nightmare premise.

So here is my wacky theory. The main character of the FNAF series, is actually the victim of the Bite of 87. Every FNAF game is some sort of fever dream the victim is having, with dreams becoming more and more violent and scary as time goes on. This would explain nightmare Freddy, as well as the increasing hallucinations as games go on.

Or not.

As I said, it was a wacky theory.
