Disney Should Buy a Fandom Before Every Disney Infinity Release

Disney Should Buy a Fandom Before Every Disney Infinity Release

We all know Disney houses some seriously fiendish masterminds. It’s a good thing the company is dedicated to entertainment, because if not, man. It could rival Google for title of Cool Company You Secretly Fear Because OMG. Fortunately, Disney puts its best efforts into owning everything you love, a move that has lead to the acquisition of Marvel and Star Wars over the last few years.

Which has, in turn, allowed for the company to exploit said franchises. Disney Infinity is one of the best examples. The original Disney Infinity was rather bland and boring. I wish I could say it had its moments, but it really didn’t when compared to Skylanders and even LittleBigPlanet . That changed with Disney Infinity 2.0 , thanks to shoving every marketable Marvel character into it. It’s a trend that will continue with Disney Infinity 3.0 and Star Wars .

But why stop there? Disney is a mogul. This company is a force. It has mad bills to throw around. Company could make it rain! What it needs to do now is, prior to every Disney Infinity installment, buy up some other series we love and throw it into the game. Because when you’ve got something that prints money, you sometimes have to put a little back in to get an even bigger payday.

Like, let’s see Disney make Disney Infinity 4.0 the niche installment. Buy up Studio Ghibli. Disney is already one of the animation studio’s primary distribution partners. Take a little extra initiative! Let’s see Spirited Away , Princess Mononoke , Howl’s Moving Castle , and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Play Sets. Give us Totoro, Ponyo, and Kiki NFC figures. Imagine the sales in Japan!

Also, Disney Infinity needs more fantasy elements. For Disney Infinity 5.0, it should go see how much Wizards of the Coast wants for Dungeons & Dragons. Game of Thrones is probably more popular among the mainstream right now, but D&D would let Disney pop similar, family friendly characters into the game. Again, it’d print money.

Since we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves with ideas, let’s finish these musings with the suggestion Disney grab Doctor Who for Disney Infinity 6.0 . It’s recognized worldwide, and there have always been rumors about some company wanting to do a US take on it. (Companies love to take great British shows and make inferior, localized cash-ins.) Just imagine it – NFC figures of every incarnation of the Doctor in Hot Topics from California to Maine!

Face it, Disney has money to burn. I’m writing this all for giggles, but don’t think the idea probably hasn’t crossed the mind of some executive somewhere. I mean, Disney Infinity 2.0 : Marvel Super Heroes and Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars are both things. Odds are, at one point in this series’ lifespan, somebody said, “How many hoops would we have to go through to, say, get Nintendo to agree to Disney Infinity 84.0: Pokemon ?”
