Grandia II Coming to Steam

Grandia II Coming to Steam

Grandia II was a beloved Dreamcast RPG, which was heralded as a classic for a long time. Depressingly, however, the game had more than a couple crappy ports. When it came to the PS2, the gam slowed down to an almost unplayable extent, making one of the best RPGs of the generation into a mere joke for anyone who didn’t hop on the Dreamcast bandwagon.

Luckily, this RPG is going to get a second change at life on everyone’s favorite digital distribution platform, Steam. GungHo Online Entertainment will be remaking the game, modeling it off the Dreamcast version (so as to avoid the slowdown.) The game will have an HD visual upgrade, and will support Keyboard and Mouse controls as well as Steam Achievements and Trading Cards.

This re-release comes as a result of a survey started by GungHo entertainment last month. The survey’s purpose was to figure out what of the now defunct Game Arts properties the studio should seek to bring back. Game Arts, for those of you who don’t know, was responsible for Grandia , as well as other RPG series like the Lunar: Silver Star Story series.

Grandia II Coming to Steam

“With the rise of digital downloads, it is especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form,” said president of GungHo America Jun Iwasaki. ” Grandia II was chosen for a PC re-release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be.”
