Dragon Ball Z Hits Smash Bros. In a Big Way

Dragon Ball Z Hits Smash Bros. In a Big Way

Mods of Super Smash Bros. Brawl are some of the most interesting fan projects in the game world. Not only did these modders first have to figure out how to break the Wii’s protection in order to run unsigned code, they then needed to figure out how to inject data into the game’s routines from places other than the DVD drive. In short, it’s quite the feat of programming, and fans have used it to create rebalance patches, add new characters, make new stages, adjust the rules, and more!

Now, we are seeing people completely redo the game from scratch. This is the case with Super Smash Bros. Brawl Z , a new fan project that is looking to replace all of the Smash Bros. roster with Dragon Ball Z characters.

The project can be found on the Youtube channel of InD Mark-2. It’s a bit of a mish mash project, taking Dragon Ball Z themed mods from other creators and mashing them into one game. As a result, the quality of these mods vary greatly. Frieza, for example, is almost a move for move replication of Lucario. Meanwhile, characters like Goku or Vegeta have completley new move-sets. Animation and model quality are also kind of a grab bag. For example, Goku has no lighting effects, while Vegeta does. Meanwhile, Krillin looks fine until he throws his Kienzan final smash, at which point he goes as rigid as a robot. Most of the voice acting is stolen from the anime or other games, and may of the animations seem to stop in the middle. For example, the Kamehameha doesn’t continue traveling across the screen, but stops about a quarter of the way and disappears into nothingness.

InD Mark-2’s channel features several other Brawl mods, including characters such as Dante, Zero, Wolverine, Bomberman, Waluigi and Deadpool. Each video provides a link to the mods used, and how to install them. So now you can put together your very own Super Smash Bros dream team, keeping in mind that most of these models were stolen from other games like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 .

If you want to make your own dream team version of smash, head on over to InD Mark-2’s YouTube channel and give these creations a whirl. Or, if you want to skip the middleman, you can always had right over to Brawl Vault and get them yourself.
