Hyrule Warriors Will Be Better On the 3DS

Hyrule Warriors Will Be Better On the 3DS

A number of E3 2015 announcements have been revealed prior to E3, but perhaps the biggest surprise is a title for the 3DS. I mean, we expect to see Wii games on the handheld, now that there’s a precident with Xenoblade Chronicles and the New 3DS, but a port of a Wii U game like Hyrule Warriors came out of nowhere. Especially since the game is only a year old and the initial trailer suggests its a 3DS, not a New 3DS game. It was quite a happy happenstance.

In fact, I believe Hyrule Warriors is going to be more than just a pleasing port. The game was great on the Wii U, but there are a number of reasons it could prove exceptional on the 3DS. Think about it. A Legend of Zelda/Musou game will be great on the handheld.

Samurai Warriors Chronicles has already set a precedent, showing that the system can handle it. The visuals will take a hit, sure, and there won’t be as many enemies on screen at once, but it will still offer the same general experience. People will get to deal out all kinds of damage as their favorite characters, and that sort of satisfaction is all someone needs.

Plus, the portable nature will help Hyrule Warriors on the 3DS. Yes, it’s possible to sit down and play a Musou game for hours, but it isn’t always the ideal approach. This sort of title can get repetitive, and the pick up and play approach eases any strain someone might incur from going through the same sort of mission more than once. People will appreciate Hyrule Warriors more when they have the option to go ahead and play in 15-30 minute bursts.

The portability will add another improvement. Hyrule Warriors was a couch coop sort of game on the Wii U. That was fun, but sometimes less than ideal. Multiplayer should prove easier to enjoy on the 3DS. It’s more popular, gathering with a bunch of friends who all have the system is easy, and this title is appealing enough to find its way into many people’s libraries.

Hyrule Warriors Will Be Better On the 3DS

Most important, the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors could end up becoming the ultimate edition. That’s due to the undoubtable inclusion of extra content. Tetra and The King of Red Lions are both in the portable release, and can only appear in the Wii U version if the 3DS port connects to it. Even if it isn’t as pretty or technologically impressive as the console edition, the handheld port will have additional bonuses to pull people in.

Hyrule Warriors is a fantastic, and welcome, surprise. It was a delight on the Wii U for a number of reasons, and the 3DS iteration will have everything that made the original great and more. Maybe it won’t be as pretty. Perhaps it won’t be as pretty as the console version, but that’s fine. The portable nature, extra content, and better chance of enjoying multiplayer with friends will more than make up for it and increase its potential.
