Could a Final Fantasy Remake Actually Boost PS4 Sales?

Could a Final Fantasy Remake Actually Boost PS4 Sales?

With consoles, it’s always about numbers. People want sales figures. I’m not just talking about executives, either. Everyone wants to know how various systems are doing. In some cases, it’s so they can prove their choice was the “right” one, because the console the picked is winning. For others, it’s about using said reports to determine which one to buy. It’s why some games are more important than others, because they could be system sellers. While it’s still early days, the Final Fantasy VII remake is going to be a system seller for Sony.

Square Enix already brought up its hopes for the title. When Tetsuya Nomura talked about the Final Fantasy VII remake to Engadget , he said it himself. Nomura said the goal was to make people happy and consider a PS4. Which makes sense, because Square Enix makes PS4 games, and more people adopting the current generation console means larger sales figures for the company.

But Square Enix and Sony don’t have to be concerned, because the Final Fantasy VII remake will sell. Look at the original game. Between September and December, 1997, a million copies were sold for the original PlayStation. Does anyone remember what it was called? “The game that sold the PlayStation.” Thus, it’s not a stretch to imagine the Final Fantasy VII remake becoming the game sells the PlayStation 4. After all, it’s based upon an original system seller.

It’s also part of a series that people keep giving second chances. Even though people were exasperated with Final Fantasy XIII , the Never Ending Installment, fans are still clamoring over Final Fantasy XV . If support is still being shown for entries that some may not consider the strongest in the series, then one can only imagine what reception a Final Fantasy VII remake will receive.

Could a Final Fantasy Remake Actually Boost PS4 Sales?

People have been asking for this. You could even call it begging. Petitions were created. Game journalists kept asking about a Final Fantasy VII remake in interviews. Ever since a reimagined opening scene, starring Cloud on the train into Midgar, appeared running on a PS3 at E3, people have wanted to see these characters again. The nostalgia factor can’t be discounted. Even if the remake features huge changes or adds an epilogue that capitalizes on the cliffhangers from Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core , people will want this and buy a PS4 for it.

Final Fantasy VII is important. Even if it isn’t your favorite installment in the series, it’s impossible to discount everything this title has done. When the Final Fantasy VII remake comes around, people will undoubtedly flock to purchase PS4s to play it.
