Is This a Big F*#K You to the PS4 and Xbox?

Is This a Big F*#K You to the PS4 and Xbox?

The Xbox One and PS4 sure didn’t launch with 1,400 games, but Steam Machines will…

It’s a little over two months away, did you know that? Have you been keeping track of when the Steam Machines will be here? You should, because Valve has. The company has been putting a lot of work into ensuring the living room PC finds a place for itself. In fact, it could end up becoming an equal to systems like the PS4 and Xbox One (which would make for a viable third option in this generation’s battle). It already features high-profile releases like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros, The Witcher 3 and of course GTA V just to name a few. They clearly have the ammo to go to war.

I mean, look at how long the beta has been running. There have been Steam Machines out there since last year. People have been going over and testing these things. Valve has been talking with companies to ensure a variety of models are available. Something this extensive shows that a company is ready to have everything perfect at launch.

So does the library of games available. People have been keeping track. At this very moment, there are over 1,400 Linux games on Steam, the OS that all Steam Machines will rely upon. It can’t really compare to the over 6,000 Windows titles available, but it’s still a more than admirable number. You can’t say any consoles have launched with a library that large. People are going to have so much to play at launch that the purchase of a Steam Machine might even seem worth it.

I mean, people already have the Linux games waiting for them. This isn’t like the old days, where when you bought a PC game, you were usually only getting a copy for one OS. If you have one version of a game, you own them all on Steam. People are set.

Is This a Big F*#K You to the PS4 and Xbox?

Sure, the prices are daunting. Knowing you’ll have to spend at least $450 on a Steam Machine may give people pause. But, you also won’t need to spend any additional money on games if you already have a Steam account. Most people looking at these do. And it isn’t that much more expensive than a console if you go with the lowest end PC. A $400 Xbox One or PS4 can easily compare.

The closer we get to the Steam Machines launch, the more it looks like Valve knew what it was doing with these PCs. The price is the only thing that might give people pause, but when you consider the time spent in beta and the wealth of games available, it’s hard not to think about going with one, perhaps even over a console!
