Will the Game of the Year Shock You?

Will the Game of the Year Shock You?

I know we’re only in August, but it’s never too early to start thinking about this year’s biggest success stories in gaming. People always wonder which game could be “it.” We see a lot of games re-released with Game of the Year monikers, but we all know in our hearts there can be only one. Early buzz has people wondering if something like Fallout 4 , Super Mario Maker , or Batman: Arkham Knight could be the one this year. But what about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ?

MGS V has a lot of things going for it. It’s got drama. There’s comedy. A promise of an open world and online experience that keep people coming back are there too. It has a lot of potential and, as people throw around their “what ifs,” they shouldn’t forget the Big Boss.

I mean, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the end of an era. After what happened with Hideo Kojima and Konami, we will probably never see another one of these games again. The story is drawing to a close, and what better way to end it than having the last installment being the official/unofficial game of the year?

Also, we’ve already seen plenty of screenshots and footage coming in for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . It looks like a beautiful game, regardless of platform, frame rate, and resolution. It’s certainly the sort of title that encourages hype. Even the images shared on Twitter, like the one telling people which button to press to make the horse Big Boss is riding on poop, are impressive. Of course, you expect that from a game that’s been in development since 2012.

What’s telling too are the early reviews. Even though there is an embargo in place, some Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom stories are already surfacing. JeuxVideo Magazine gave the game a 17/20 score, and HobbyConsolas gave it a 97/100. Those two initial reports are pretty promising.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a lot of potential. I know 2015 is a busy year, and a lot of amazing games have been released. It’s going to be difficult to point at just one and say it’s the best. But, if you’re the kind of person who believes that only a single game can be considered the best a year has to offer, don’t forget to consider Metal Gear Solid V .
