See Why GTA V Just Got Even Better!

See Why GTA V Just Got Even Better!

The Rockstar Editor, one of the only unique features to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V , won’t be unique much longer. Next month, it will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as part of a new downloadable update.

The Rockstar Editor was basically a rudimentary video editor that utilized the GTA V engine. You could take any character from the game, put him inside any environment in the game, and essentially make him do whatever you want. You can also add text, soundtracks, camera effects, and more. Then, a rudimentary video editor will allow you to string these clips together and share them with other users.

The console update will also come with a variety of new features as detailed below:

  • Ambient Audio and Sound Effects Library: Add ambient and atmospheric sound design with a library of audio tracks to help bring your scenes to life or add sound effects from a collection of Foley and other sfx.
  • Snapmatic Integration: Now you can export any still frame at a marker point straight to Snapmatic, giving you ultimate freedom when searching for that perfect camera angle.
  • Director Mode Updates: An enlarged minimap with location blips to highlight preset locations, the power to freeze chosen time of day settings and the ability to spawn air and water vehicles.
  • Copy and Paste Marker Properties: Easily copy and paste your audio settings from any marker to another marker in the clip – adding invaluable efficiency to your go-to editing techniques.
  • New Fonts: You’ll now have more style options than ever for your titles and credits — we’re tripling the library of available fonts with new styles.

These new features will also be added to the PC version. In addition, an update to GTA Online Freemode will also be coming in the next few weeks.

When we reviewed Grand Theft Auto V for the PC, we said that the Rockstar Editor was pretty much the only new feature of any note.  Most of the gameplay was exactly the same, and the graphics received a decent overhaul. Now, with this new update bringing the Rockstar Editor to console platforms, there is very little reason to get the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V , unless you literally have no other way to play it and/or, you haven’t already purchased it before. Grand Theft Auto V is still a game that was best when it first released, and no amount of user made machinima videos of criminals kicking dogs will change that.
