Is Marvel Releasing Captain America: Civil War Too Soon?

Is Marvel Releasing Captain America: Civil War Too Soon?

Civil War is a memorable Marvel comic line in which all the heroes of the Marvel universe choose different sides in a debate and eventually war about whether or not superheroes should have to register their identities. Basically, every single character in the Marvel Universe was involved in some way, shape, or form, either taking a position for the registration of superhero activity, or against it.

Now, the Marvel Cinematic universe is going to get in on the action, bringing you their interpretation of Civil War. The main players in the comic book, Tony Stark who is for registration, and Captain America, who is against, will remain the same. The movie is called Captain America: Civil War , so we have a feeling Marvel has chosen which side is right, as opposed to the more morally grey decision the comics put forth.

Recently, Marvel revealed who would be supporting what side of the war and, well, to be honest, even if it does somewhat line up with the comics, it makes very little sense. Captain America, a character whose secret identity is already known to the government, will be joined by Hawkeye, whose identity is known, Ant-Man, whose identity is known, The Winter Soldier, whose identity is known AND was Cap’s enemy in the last movie, Falcon, whose identity is known, and SHIELD agent Sharon Carter, who doesn’t even have a secret identity. Remember, this is the team that is against superhero registration.

On the other side, we have Iron Man, whose identity is known, Black Widow whose identity may be known but is a spy, War Machine, whose identity is known, Black Panther, whose identity is not known yet, and Vision, who literally isn’t human. It seems like this team would have more of an impetus remain unregistered, but they are the pro-side. Not only that, but they have WAY more tech and way more superpowers than Cap’s side.

Is Marvel Releasing Captain America: Civil War Too Soon?

We know that some important players, like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, simply cannot be a part of this movie due to Fox holding their license, but Spider-Man will be and hasn’t been revealed at all. Then there are important characters like The Punisher, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, and that weird clone of Thor. These characters should all show up or else a good portion of the Civil War plotline would be gutted.

That’s why I feel that these teams, as revealed, are a little underwhelming. Yes, Marvel has done a great job with their cinematic universe in the past, but it feels as if this Civil War movie is coming just a little bit too soon, before Marvel is really ready to use all of the characters involved. I’m not sure that this will mean that the movie will be bad, but I am saying that I feel more skeptical in response to this movie than many others. At least it’s bound to be better than Thor: The Dark World .
