Why Fallout 4 Will Kick Ass on the Xbox One

Why Fallout 4 Will Kick Ass on the Xbox One

Next week one of the biggest games of the year will finally be on store shelves and on your hard drives. Fallout 4 is almost here, and if you plan on playing it, you’re in one of three possible positions right now: You don’t have a next-gen console and you’re wondering whether you should buy an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4; you have an Xbox One and a PS4, and you have to pick the one on which you want to play Fallout 4 ; or you only have one console, or a souped-up gaming PC. If you’re in the latter position, you know exactly how you’ll be experiencing Fallout 4 , but if you’re still on the fence about whether to play it on Xbox One or PS4, I’m going to make this a lot easier for you.  The definitive Fallout 4 experience is on the Xbox One, and there are three good reasons why.

An unbeatable bundle

For many, the holidays will mean a new console. The fact that Black Ops 3 is getting a scaled down release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 means that there are obviously a substantial number of people still playing on those platforms, and that means that there are still plenty of Xbox Ones and PS4s to be sold. Fallout 4 is going to be a system seller, and when it comes to moving Fallout 4 together with hardware Microsoft has an obvious advantage, offering an attractive bundle. If you’re a huge Fallout fan and you’re in the market for your next console, there’s no contest. You can snag an Xbox One with expanded storage, a controller, a headset, and a copy of Fallout 4 all for a great price. There’s only one thing that could make this bundle even sweeter…

Fallout 3

Backwards compatibility is the ace up Microsoft’s sleeve. That’s one huge feature that the PS4 is sadly lacking, and one of the first 360 games that Xbox One owners will be able to enjoy after the November 12 update is Fallout 3 . Anyone who purchases Fallout 4 for the Xbox One physically, digitally, or as part of the console bundle will be able to download Fallout 3 for free, and that is reason enough to play this game on the Xbox One. If you’ve never experienced Fallout 3 , you’re missing out on one of the best experiences and best soundtracks in video game history. And don’t forget, if you own Forza Motorsport 6, you’re also getting a couple of free, Fallout 4 themed cars to play with. As far as content goes, the full Fallout experience is on the Xbox One.

Mods

If the full Fallout experience just isn’t enough, you’ll no doubt be anxiously awaiting some awesome, fan-made mods. Bethesda is giving PC players a Creation Kit in 2016, giving them “…the same tool we use in the studio. You’ll be able to create your own mods and share them with others.” PC players are likely already familiar with creative freedom afforded by these modding tools, and Fallout 4 will be one of the first games the bridge the gap between PCs and consoles, bringing the best mods to the Xbox One first, and then to the PS4. GameSpot asked Pete Hines at E3 why Microsoft’s console was given preference in this regard. “Why Microsoft? They are a company that is in both of those spaces; they’re heavily in the PC space; they’re heavily in the console space,” Hines said. “They had some pretty good ideas about how to make something like this work.” Exactly when the Creation Kit will be released is still unknown, but when the mods start pouring in we do know that Xbox One owners will get to play with them first.

Don’t be discouraged, PS4 owners. You’re still getting one of the most highly anticipated games of 2015, and there are some awesome deals out there that you can take advantage of as well. You can go to Best Buy and get the game, the Season Pass, and a sweet pair of Fallout socks (I’m not kidding) at a small discount. And don’t forget to swing by Target on launch day to pick up some Nuka Cola Quantum.
