Is the Square Enix Easter Surprise Box Too Risky?

Is the Square Enix Easter Surprise Box Too Risky?

So, Square Enix has smashingly seized upon the succulent sensation of an Easter sale. Until March 20, you can pre-order an Easter surprise box, which includes 5 games for $9.99USD. Not to sound like a sales pitch, but I do think this is worth it. By buying five surprise games, you might just find a diamond among the rubble.

This bundle might very well include mostly indie games – Square Enix’s attempt at clearing out its inventory. As we all know, Indie games can be highly unique and a lot of fun, like Sunless Sea or The Stanley Parable . The last time I invested in Square Enix’s surprise bag sale, I discovered Amnesia . Though I often ran screaming from this game, it is probably my most memorable PC gaming experience. In addition, you could also find yourself in genres you would normally never explore. I never considered the horror genre before I encountered Amnesia , and it led me to games like BioShock , Dead Space , and eventually that stretched to Dark Souls.

Perhaps this surprise package could introduce you to relatively unknown games that never received the promotion they deserved due in the year they were released. Older games, for example, like Obsidian , were swept under the rug by sheer lack of advertisement in mainstream media at the time. The most significant reason you should shell out ten bucks to Square Enix, however, is that you may just receive that new game you haven’t been able to afford quite yet. It would be like Christmas!

That being said, you could also receive the worst games ever made. They could be part of a select genre you simply have no interest in nor ever will be convinced to. Though, if this is the case, I do recommend you to try it anyway. Based on my experience with Amnesia and the GTA series, I would not want to risk passing up an amazing game because of stereotypes. I believed every horrible stereotype about the GTA series until I researched it for my recent article. Now I’m saving up to buy GTA V . Nonetheless, it is still possible that you will not like any of the five games you receive. If that happens, I suggest sending the offending games to friends like Square Enix’s advertisement suggests.

Is the Square Enix Easter Surprise Box Too Risky?

Based on past deals, Square Enix will almost certainly send you a variety of games. These can be a great adventure into new genres, as was my experience with Amnesia and GTA . The package could introduce you to underrated games; you might discover a game on par with Obsidian from the year 2000. Indeed, there is a chance that you are lucky enough to receive five games you have already had your eye on. At the risk of wasting ten dollars, the surprise box could be worth it even for one amazing gem that expands your gaming palette.
