Dammit BioWare, Plug Your Leaks!

Dammit BioWare, Plug Your Leaks!

Mark Darrah, the Executive Producer of Dragon Age, has recently leaked a thirteen second video featuring a red book. The cover, as displayed above, shows a rook and a wolf’s head inside a flame hovering about it. Darrah opens the book to reveal a very official looking EA logo and the words “for internal use only”, then promptly closes the book.

Damn it, BioWare! I’m not even finished playing Inquisition yet, and you come out with more leaks? Well! A rook, flame, and wolf: let the over-analyzing begin!

If this is still Dragon Age , then perhaps this is the Dragon Age tactics game BioWare was tweeting about before? The rook certainly implies the strategy of a chess game. As was linked, you can see that I think that’s a silly idea. Tactics games are just not for me, and I highly doubt BioWare is going to be such a tease about tactics game that’s basically already out .

Or perhaps this lovely red book is part four of the already handsome trilogy? In that case, the rook could simply a symbol of the RPG the series is. The rook could also resemble a place in the game, as in Origins the map symbol for Redcliffe was a rook as well. Will that town ever find peace? Another game centred around the town would undoubtedly be a bit repetitious. However, the wolf is also on this red book. The wolf, a prolific icon in the Dragon Age series, usually represents the Dreadwolf Fen’Harel. Fen’Harel is a Dalish god, whose details are heard mostly in the DLC for Inquisition , called Trespasser . I won’t spoil the details for those who have yet to play it, but I will say that a new game following the story a certain mage would very interesting indeed. The flame could be the flame of magic. Fire also tends to represent destruction, however, and might suggest the demise of Fen’Harel or the Dalish themselves. A Dalish rebellion after the events of Trespasser would certainly make a very interesting game – the fire of rebellion, indeed, with such a red cover too.

That said, what if this book means an entirely new game? Well, it must be a fantasy game – all of these symbols are usually found in that genre. And Mark Darrah is the Executive Producer of Dragon Age , so really fantasy is the only way this can go. A new fantasy game from BioWare certainly sounds exciting, as they could go in all sorts of directions. The fantasy genre is as varied as any other – the possibilities are literally endless. Perhaps it will be a world where werewolves rule, with all other supernatural creatures below them, and the game is a political war between the two. Rook and wolf, as it were.

Or it could be a book with lots of concept art in it from Inquisition , to be released within the year. Or even better, as Ritzyfoxx said, it’s just a book of everyone in the office’s pets. Yup, here they are, Frank the hamster and The Arishonk goose, you can finally meet them all. Nonetheless, all we have here is pure and wild speculation – and BioWare being horrible teases, again. This could be an entirely new game, a DLC, or just a red book with a cool cover. We probably won’t know for a very long time, so as much as we’d like to throw our money at BioWare, let’s not get our hopes up too soon.
