Which Company is Confused Beyond Words?

Which Company is Confused Beyond Words?

Microsoft doesn’t know what it’s doing anymore. It comes out with a new console, admitting the previous one didn’t perform to the expectations of both the consumers and the developers. The games it presented at E3, you know, the place where the big three are supposed to make your gaming dreams come true, were slightly intriguing at best. There weren’t even any interesting VR games, Minecraft just doesn’t compare to the terror of Resident Evil VII .

So are they sticking to their game series? Because that Gears of War 4 demo could have sucked the enthusiasm out of a new Zelda game. Not even the people on stage were excited about it. There was nothing new about it, nothing that would even get a fan of the first game to play. And I don’t know about you, but DLC and new content addition announcements belong in news articles and tweets, not at E3. So if Microsoft can’t be bothered to hype its existing series, maybe it’s new games? But none of them were really focused on, or even talked about. ReCore was almost glazed over to get to the next title.

And then a commercial about custom controllers? Ugh, again, the Internet would have handled this just fine. The entire conference felt like Microsoft was scraping the bottom of the news barrel. I used to work for Zelda Informer. I know what it looks like when you start making news out of scraps. It’s not a bad thing to do, but it is at the event that’s supposed to showcase a company’s best efforts of the year.

If this is Microsoft ‘s best, then I think we could agree that it’ll all be downhill from here. But we know it’s not Microsoft’s best. We know the company can do better. The Xbox 360 is a great marker in gaming history for both its capabilities and its games. So why isn’t this new console the most amazing there is? Well, it is something to be considered, at least, in the console market. It is, more or less, the latest technology we have and that does count for something. However, Microsoft’s attitude about it certainly didn’t help sell it to anyone. It couldn’t be bothered to attach any fanfare to the announcement whatsoever. Compared to the pomp and parade of Sony, it just looks like Microsoft is hitting its head against a wall and hoping good products drop out.

I certainly hope that isn’t the case, I know they have talented teams. I truly don’t understand why Microsoft can’t make up its mind about gaming. Honestly, I’m getting the distinct feeling that Microsoft was just trying to get ahead of the hype on PS4 4.5/Neo by announcing a new console that isn’t actually better , in hopes to steal some attention away from Sony. It is so frustrating to know that Microsoft can do better, it just isn’t for some unfathomable reason. It is clearly as deeply confused as we are. Hopefully, however, Microsoft will return one day (like Nintendo often does) and show us why we never should have lost faith in it in the first place.
