Street Fighter V’s Latest Update Makes It a Must-Buy

Street Fighter V’s Latest Update Makes It a Must-Buy

Street Fighter V wasn’t shipped as a complete game.” That was a direct quote from every single person who bought or played Street Fighter V shortly after it launched in February. The game itself is a joy to play. It’s the most balanced a Street Fighter has ever been, and the V-Trigger system is the best innovation that the series has seen in so many iterations. I think it vastly superior to th focus attack system, and I think the majority of competitive players would agree that it keeps matches flowing at a more compelling pace.

The competitive players would say that, but the casual player or long-time Street Fighter fans may be saying, “Where’s the rest of my game?” If you’re just now hopping on the Street Fighter V bandwagon, then you probably don’t understand just how barebones this game seemed when we first got our hands on it. There was practically no single-player to speak of, outside an anemic “story mode” that took about two to three minutes to complete with any given character. No trials mode, in-depth tutorials, arcade mode, vs. CPU mode, or actual story mode were anywhere to be found.

It’s a shame that Capcom decided to launch the game when it did, because it left so many people feeling ripped off. Street Fighter V is one of the best – if not the best – fighting games this generation, and it deserves a proper fan-base. Thankfully, I can finally say that the game’s cost to content ratio has finally leveled out quite favorably, and we’re looking at a game that’s worth picking up as soon as possible. You can now buy with confidence, and here’s why.

Challenge Mode is exactly what beginners need.

An update back in March added the hotly-desired “Challenge Mode,” which will guide you through everything you need to know in order to go from spud to stud. 12 beginners lessons, 11 intermediate lessons, and 4 advanced lessons will literally begin by teaching you how to move and jump and hold your hand until you’re dashing and reading frames like a pro. Each and every character also has a set of 16 unique lessons that covers all of their basic move sets and advance combos. Once you think you have a firm grasp on everything, there are several trials designed to help you practice your combos and train up some muscle memory.

There’s a wider roster and Story Mode.

By the time the latest update goes live this Friday, Street Fighter V will have a full roster of 22 playable characters. Two of those characters will only be available in Story Mode while Capcom continues to balance them for online play, but at least you’ll have a freaking story mode now! Capcom expects players will make it through the story in about 3 hours, and that’s rather sizable for a fighting game. Between the story and the aforementioned Challenge Mode, you shy World Warriors who don’t like going online should have plenty to keep you occupied.

Get it on sale!

Street Fighter V can be yours at a discounted price for a little while longer! It’s featured on both platforms on sale for $40: through Steam for PC players and through the PSN mid-year sale for PS4 players (with a PlayStation Plus discount). I began writing this article to convince you that, after all of these updates and additions, this is a game that is easily worth a $60 asking price. For $40, no fighting game fan can excusably miss out on this!

What do you guys think? Now that Capcom has checked everything off of our laundry list of most wanted features and updates, is Street Fighter V worth it after all? Capcom has mentioned that an Arcade Mode is in the works, and additional stages and outfits are up for grabs as well. Has all this been enough to win you over, or do you find it hard to support Capcom after its decision to launch this game in a sorry state?
