Why Battlefront IS the Star Wars Game You’re Looking For

The third Star Wars Battlefront expansion is here, and it’s a doozy. This week, we’re finally able to relive one of the most important parts of Star Wars history. With the Death Star Digital Expansion we’re… well, we’re headed to the Death Star. We get to go through places on and around the battle station. Isn’t it great that it’s finally here? Except, it’s kind of not. Why? Because it’s an expansion.

Heading into and battling around the Death Star is a huge event. This is arguably the most iconic Star Wars location. Even people who barely know anything about the series recognize the Death Star. But it isn’t part of the base game. We don’t get to battle on the Death Star Surface, Command Sector, Defense Sector, Power Sector, or Imperial Blockade. That’s an experience that’s locked away unless someone pays more for the single experience or season pass, and that doesn’t seem right somehow.

Especially since one of the Death Star Digital Expansions’ characters is someone that should have been in the base game. Chewbacca is the newest hero. Doesn’t it seem odd that someone so important to so many Star Wars plotlines is a paid-for hero and released so late in Star Wars Battlefront’ s lifespan? Bossk being added makes sense. He isn’t as famous. But Chewie should have been a priority.

As should the Death Star Digital Expansions’ starfighters. Think about Star Wars . Which X-wing would you consider most important? I’d say Luke Skywalker’s Red Five X-wing. Well, you only get it in this paid extra content, along with Wedge Antilles and Biggs Darklighter, your supports when you’re in this starfighter. To make things worse, Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced X1, with Victor Two and Three Imperial Aces as supports, is also in the bundle. Both of these are ships that historically important. They should have been part of the core experience.

Why Battlefront IS the Star Wars Game You’re Looking For

There are even people who are suggesting this Death Star Digital Expansion should have been what the whole Star Wars Battlefront game was about. It has what people would want, after all. What’s more thrilling than an assault on the Death Star and taking the fight directly to Darth Vader? Nothing, really. And the fact that people are even pointing out such a thing further highlights its importance.

Star Wars Battlefront is the sort of game that has had to grow into greatness. But, it’s a bit concerning that what might be its best and most promising adventures are add-ons. The Death Star digital expansion is full of experiences and things that are critical to the Star Wars universe. It doesn’t seem right that people have to pay extra for such iconic moments. Instead, it should have been included in the game from the very start.
