Avengers: Infinity War is here and whew! This is a movie. So much happens in this one. Worst of all, so much happens and we are just left sitting there, waiting for the second half of it to arrive in 2019. That is brutal.

But while we wait, let’s unpack and think about everything that happened in Avengers: Infinity War. Let’s take this time to go over the biggest things that happened and hit us like bricks as we sat through this almost-three-hour extravaganza.

Loki dies.

This is the death that sets the stage. Loki has gone from a villain to an antihero. He was that guy you could never trust, but also could not help but like. After all the development in Thor: Ragnarok, Loki could not let Thanos kill him and seemed willing to give up the Tesseract and its Space Stone.

Except he then tries to kill Thanos, getting himself killed in the process. This shows us that no punches are being pulled in Avengers: Infinity War. People are going to die and disappear. Thanos is not someone to be messed with. Get the tissues ready for those possible tears.

Vision loves Scarlet Witch.

There has been a lot of development for Vision in the background of the last few movies. Avengers: Age of Ultron marked his creation, where Tony Stark put J.A.R.V.I.S. into one of the synthetic Ultron bodies housing the Mind Stone. The artificial person was born. Then, in Captain America: Civil War, Vision is guarding her after she inadvertently killed innocents at the outset of the movie. We see the two start to relate together and bond.

People familiar with the comics will know Scarlet Witch and Vision were an item, so it would be no surprise to them to see him admit his feelings for her. But seeing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Vision grow so much over three movies and expressing that love just as the person he cares for has to destroy him in an attempt to save the mind stone is a punch.

Thanos loves Gamora

This is a big one for me. In the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, we knew there was a clear sense of favoritism. Thanos preferred Gamora to Nebula, her “sister.” But we did not really know if he considered both tools. To get the Soul Stone, Thanos has to sacrifice someone he loves. Earlier in the movie, we saw that he presented her with a dagger and kept her from seeing her people being slaughtered.

It is at this moment that we realize he genuinely does care for her, as when he sacrifices her, it is enough to get the stone he needs.

Thanos succeeds in getting the Infinity Stones!

Okay. Given that this is a two-part movie, we knew that there was going to be a cliffhanger. And what a cliffhanger! Thanos wins! He gets every Infinity Stone and completes the Gauntlet. This means his objective of obliterating half of life is gone, destroying the Gauntlet in the process.

It also totally dissolves much of Avengers: Infinity War’s cast. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Drax, Falcon, Groot, Mantis, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, and the Winter Soldier are gone. That hurts! But hey, at least Captain America, Black Widow, the Hulk, Iron Man, M’Baku, Okoye, Nebula, Rocket Raccoon, Thor, and War Machine are alive! And Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Shuri could be there too!

Captain Marvel is coming!

Okay. So we know the Captain Marvel movie is coming out on March 8, 2019. It is going to introduce Captain Marvel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Oh, and be the first MCU woman-led movie. It is a big deal. But it is an even bigger deal after seeing the after-the-credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War.

Before Nick Fury and Maria Hill disappear, Fury sends an alert to Captain Marvel. We see that she receives it. Clearly, she is still around and she is now on the way. Why did he have to contact her that way? What role will she play? It really did an amazing job of building hype!
