I Haven’t Needed to Play My Vita in a Month

I Haven’t Needed to Play My Vita in a Month

I’ve never been one of those people who bought into the whole “Vita has no games” argument because I have one and used to have a surplus of games to enjoy. I’d always been really happy with Sony’s handheld, even during the lean launch months, because I had at least one game I wanted to play. I even carried my Vita around with me regularly, opposed to my 3DS. Except now, my stance has started to change, because it’s been over a month since I touched my Vita.

I realized something was wrong sometime after my Rune Factory 4 binge at the beginning of the month. I’d been enjoying Sephia so much, you see. But, I needed to take a break and decided some Pikmin 3 adventures would be a nice change of pace. It’s then that I saw my Vita was on top of my Wii U GamePad. I hadn’t touched the GamePad in at least a month, and realized that it must have been just as long since the Vita received some love.

Which led me to take personal inventory and think of the last time I really played a Vita game. I deduced that it was when Atelier Meruru Plus was released, and that was way back on September 3. I did test Lone Survivor on my Vita; granted, it was when it came out on September 24, but I ended up playing the horror adventure primarily on my PS3. I made a momentary resolution to show my Vita some love.

Then Pokemon X came out, and I promptly forgot about my Vita again until now. (And you can read about my obsession with Pokemon X all across this website )

Sony’s Sale of the Dead was announced, and I went to go look and see if there was anything I would want or need. I was sad to see how few Vita games were going to be on sale, and then remembered that I had vowed to spend more time with my other handheld. Clearly, that plan didn’t go too well.

The Vita is stuck in a rut. While there are always the PlayStation Plus incentives to look to, September and October have been remarkably slow months for the handheld (as opposed to the robust 3DS lineup ). While there were a handful of games, I doubt anyone was or is falling over themselves to play Atelier Meruru Plus , Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate , or Lone Survivor . Even though I want to change my gaming patterns, the promise of free Hotline Miami this week isn’t enough to break the hold of Pokemon X , the promise of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies , and other games. I honestly can’t see myself coming back to the handheld until the return of Ys: Memories of Celceta in two weeks, and wonder if other Vita owners feel the same.
